Toddler Girl Room Inspiration

My sweet little Avé (she doesn’t look sassy at all, does she?)  decided this past week that she is ready for a big girl bed.  When I say she ‘decided’ I mean she climbed out of her crib then cried for the next two days about how “she fell out of her bed.” I had great plans of leaving my very independent toddler in her crib until we gave her a sibling to take it away. But as you can see I said independent – so she decided otherwise.  I have been brainstorming what to do with her room and came up with some toddler girl room inspiration that I thought I would share!

collage of items for a little girls room

I know I want her room to be bright, modern, and easy to change up.  With toddler and young children’s rooms I find that rooms where you can add and subtract as their current focus’ change are great.  So finding some stand out features that will last with smaller aspects that fit their current love works best, and will keep you from feeling like you’re wasting money.

The design board for my toddler girl room inspiration really fits both her personality as well as my decor style.  The rug, lamp, and floral pillow are all items I have already purchased and will likely use in this room.  I have gone back and forth between the lovely Jenny Lind beds from The Land of Nod, and this beautiful canopy bed from Pottery Barn Kids – or maybe there is an even better option? a beautiful tufted headboard maybe?

She LOVES dance and LOVES animals so either of those or maybe a mix of those sorts of ideas will definitely be a good thing to incorporate.

I would love to hear your ideas on Avé’s room and hear any feedback.

Toddler Room with Herringbone Wall

When we moved there were very few things I knew I was going to do in our house.  One of those few things was Jack’s bedroom.  In our last house I had painted a navy herringbone wall beside his bed, and in an attempt to help Jack to feel at home after the move — I knew it had to happen again!

When I picked out Jacks bedding I knew I wanted something neutral that could grow with him, and a duvet that could be washed.  The grey stripes from West Elm were exactly what I was looking for, and we added the monogrammed name to the pillow case for an added fun touch.

Because Jack is such a warm sleeper he doesn’t sleep with the duvet but he is obsessed with his little unicorn quilts!!! If you don’t have any – buy 5!  We have them all over the house and they are seriously the greatest blanket – and Jack loves his “buffalo blankey” so much I’m about to order a backup.

I also have a pillow with a bible verse embroidered on Jack’s bed that we adore! Not only is it a beautiful meaningful piece, but it gives us a chance to work on verse memorization with Jack and is how he learned to spell his name. I can’t recommend Anna Joy French’s pillows enough!!

At our last house I did little touches of cars and trucks in Jack’s room, but because he is animal obsessed recently we went with some animal pictures and art work, and a little animal figurine on his dresser  (and the not photographed 300 stuffed animals that actually reside in his bed!)

The J above his bed was a DIY project that I actually did 4 years ago for his nursery to spell his whole name.  When we moved him to his toddler room I knew I wanted to keep the J up to remind me of his nursery.  Leave me a comment if you have any interest in a tutorial on a huge yard wrapped letter!

I would love to see what you have done in our kids rooms, or hear feedback on Jack’s room.  I would be more than happy to do a tutorial on the easy yet time consuming herringbone wall if anyone wants to see one!

Pumpkin Cake with Goat Cheese Icing

I should probably just start this post by stating: I PROMISE, I DID TASTE THIS AND ITS GOOD. ha!  I then forced my sweet husband and daughter to try it, and it was a home run by all.

DIY Magnetic Chalkboards

This DIY Magnetic boards post may contain affiliate links

Yesterday I shared our  laundry room reveal,  and explained I really wanted our laundry room to serve as a mud room/hub for our family when we are coming and going. Our laundry room is directly off our door from the garage, and by the kitchen, so it is perfectly located for this!

In our last home I had come up with the idea of a DIY magnetic boards to fill the need for both a place for my kids to play with magnets, as well as a spot for a “command center” of sorts.  It was such a loved spot in the house that I knew I wanted to recreate it in our current home.

The best part of this project is that I got to learn from my mistakes making it last time!

Both of my toddlers LOVE to play with magnets and due to our fridge being stainless steel they cant play there. (and I honestly love the chaos of it being out of the way!) Most large framed chalkboards you find in stores are not magnetic, so a DIY became some what necessary.

This project can be completed in 30 min or less (if you don’t count drying time)

Total cost for me per chalkboard was about 30 dollars

Supplies needed:

24×36 inch frame //mine is from IKEA

Chalkboard Paint

Command Strips

24×36 sheet galvanized steel//Home Depot

Steps

1 –  Paint your sheet(s) of galvanized steel.  I found that spray worked better. I love the spray paint I linked above, and one can will be more than enough for a few sheets.

in our last house I painted them with roll on chalkboard paint but they eventually started peeling.  These have now been up for almost 3 years and have no peeling, so I definitely stand behind spray!)

2 – Remove glass from frame and any matting if your frame has it so that you have just an empty frame.

3 – Place painted steel sheet in frame and close it up. (TIP: I placed the matting and glass from my frame behind the steel incase I ever wanted to use it as a frame down the road).

4 – Hang your Chalkboard.  Once it is up place a couple of command strips on the sides and bottom of the frame to keep it in place.

Because when you hang things and write you will bump the frame a lot or add unbalanced weight, this will save you a lot of headache!

5 – Decorate and ENJOY! I found some great locker organizer bins at Target that worked awesome for holding magnets for my kids so they could have several sets out at once.

Laundry Room Reveal

One of the things that instantly sold me on our new house was the laundry room.  It had the bones and space needed to be a functional mud room and laundry room all in one for our little family.

Originally the room was a pretty minty color, but in true Arin fashion – it is now a great neutral grey.  I chose to add some storage solutions in the room to allow for the room to be both functional for our family while still looking clean and presentable due to its location right off the kitchen.  Below are some links and details on where to buy similar items

Because this was going to be a hub area for our family when we leave and enter our home, I also wanted to give the room a happy splash, and incorporate a place to communicate with Sam and keep a calendar – Thus the sprinkle wall and message boards were born! I will post an easy DIY tutorial on the message boards tomorrow.

They are SO easy! You will definitely want to add them to several rooms of your house!
